Xiaomi's apparently dusted off its Black Shark sub-brand to update the GS3 series. The last time we heard from them in the smartwatch space was the GS3 Sport, and now they're back with the GS3 Ultra, which is a rugged option that has some interesting features worth looking. Let's get into the details.

      Black Shark GS3 Ultra Overview

      Display and Build

      undefined

The GS3 Ultra rocks a 1.43-inch circular AMOLED display with 466×466 pixel resolution with brightness maxing out at 1,000 nits. Black Shark slapped on 9H Gorilla Glass for protection, and the whole thing's wrapped in a reinforced metal frame. What's interesting here is the four mechanical-style buttons. Most smartwatches rely heavily on touchscreens, with the availability of just one or two buttons, but a 4-button design is a completely different game, and also particularly useful when you are using gloves in the winter.

The watch carries MIL-STD-810 certification, which means it's passed military-grade durability tests. It's rated for 5ATM water resistance (50 meters) and carries an IP69K rating. That last one's uncommon; it means the watch can handle high-pressure water jets and dust.

      Fitness Tracking and Health Monitoring

      undefined

Black Shark loaded the GS3 Ultra with 160+ sports modes. It auto-detects walking, running, elliptical, and rowing or the basics most people actually do. Similarly, you are like most smartwatches, also getting health tracking features, which covers heart rate monitoring, SpO2 (blood oxygen), and stress measurement. Sleep tracking breaks down into Deep Sleep, Light Sleep, REM, and Awake phases. The features are mostly basic and common, but one feature stands out: it even tracks afternoon naps, which, while increasingly seen, is still absent from most standard smartwatches.

      Navigation and Battery Life

The watch uses dual-band GPS (L1 + L5), which improves accuracy compared to single-band systems. And alongside that, it also supports BeiDou, GLONASS, NavIC, and Galileo satellite systems. The watch also supports calling with ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation).

Black Shark claims 18 days of regular use and 45 days in Ultra-Long Standby mode. They're apparently using "high-density batteries" but haven't revealed the exact capacity.
