Apple has updated its 14-inch baseline MacBook Pro with the M5 chip, bringing the laptop in line with its latest silicon. The update is purely internal with no changes to design, display, or price. This article will discuss everything about the latest MacBook Pro 14-inch with M5, including its price in Nepal, specifications, and availability. Let's dive in!

      MacBook Pro 14-inch (M5) Overview

      Performance

      M5 Chip

Apple's new M5 chip sticks with a 10-core CPU and GPU but makes key changes under the hood. Every GPU core now gets its own Neural Accelerator, and the 16-core Neural Engine runs faster. The chip also pushes memory bandwidth up by 27.5% and supports up to 32GB of unified memory.

According to Apple, this adds up to a 30% boost in general performance over the M4. Graphics get a bigger leap, with ray-tracing tasks running 45% faster. You're also looking at a 20% jump in multithreaded CPU speed. As you'd expect, Apple also unironically compares it to the five-year-old M1, claiming a 6x boost in AI performance.

Anyway, the latest M5 runs diffusion models and local LLMs through WebAI with all processing done on the device. In apps, that means Topaz Video AI enhancement is 1.8x faster, Blender 3D rendering is 1.7x faster, and Xcode code compilation is 1.2x faster compared to the M4. Similarly, the Vision Pro headset is also getting the M5 upgrade, alongside a new strap.

      Awkward lineup?

Apple usually launches all MacBook Pro chips at once, like it did with M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max last year. But this time, only the base M5 arrived first. The M5 Pro and M5 Max variants will come months later.

So the $1,599 base model has the newest 2025 chip, but the more expensive $1,999+ models still run M4 Pro or M4 Max from 2024. Those older chips are still faster for heavy work because they have more cores, Thunderbolt 5, and higher memory bandwidth. Thus, the cheapest MacBook Pro is the most current, but not the most powerful.

      Display and Design

The 14.2-inch mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display stays the same. Resolution is still 3,024 × 1,964 pixels. ProMotion with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate is still a Pro-only feature, while the MacBook Air uses a 60Hz panel. The chassis is also exactly identical to the previous generation. Apple have made no changes to thickness, weight, or color options as well.  Last year's M4 refresh added a third USB-C Thunderbolt 4 port and an anti-glare display option. This M5 update makes no such physical revisions.

      Storage and Battery

Similarly, Apple also claims the SSD on the M5 MacBook Pro is now twice as fast as on the M4 model. The base configuration still offers 512GB of storage, but the maximum capacity has doubled to 4TB. But, opting for the 4TB upgrade adds a hefty $1,200 to the price. Battery life also stays at up to 24 hours, which is same as the M4 MacBook Pro. Ports, webcam, networking, and speakers also all remain unchanged.

MacBook Pro 14-inch (M5) Price in Nepal and Availability

Apple launched the M5 MacBook Pro starting at USD 1,599 in the United States, the same price as the M4 model it replaces. Preorders opened on October 15, 2025, with shipping beginning on October 22, 2025. When it arrives in Nepal, the base 512GB model should start at no less than NPR 255,000. As it is evidently known, higher configurations with more RAM or storage will cost significantly more, particularly the 4TB option which adds USD 1,200 to the base price.
