Chinese smartphone brands have been pushing battery capacities to new extremes, with Honor even announcing three smartphones with 10,000 mAh battery capacity. And these batteries are also becoming increasingly common across budget and flagship devices. But Samsung, like Pixel, or iPhone, are really weak on this front. They are all taking a more conservative approach. But according to a recent claim from a tipster, Samsung SDI is testing a massive 20,000mAh dual-cell silicon-carbon battery that could change that narrative, or atleast for samsung. This definitely sounds very exciting, but the thing is, the testing has reportedly revealed significant swelling issues. Anyway, let's take a look at this Samsung's rumored 20,000mAh battery and whether it's actually intended for smartphones.

      Samsung 20,000mAh Battery Rumors

      Battery Specifications

      undefined

According to a tipster, Samsung SDI is testing a dual-cell silicon-carbon battery with a total capacity of 20,000mAh. The setup consists of two cells: a 12,000mAh cell measuring 6.3mm thick and an 8,000mAh cell measuring 4mm thick.

The claimed test performance also looks very impressive. We are talking about 27 hours of screen-on time and around 960 annual charge cycles. For reference, most smartphone batteries are rated for 500-800 cycles before capacity degradation becomes noticeable.

The problem is that the battery reportedly developed swelling after testing. Specifically, the 8,000mAh cell swelled from its original 4mm thickness to 7.2mm.

      Is This Even for Smartphones?

There's an alternative possibility worth considering. Maybe, this battery might not be intended for smartphones at all? I mean, a 20,000mAh capacity is enormous for a phone—even with dual-cell architecture, fitting this into a smartphone chassis while maintaining acceptable thickness and weight would be challenging. It's plausible that Samsung SDI is testing this battery for electric vehicles or other larger devices.

      Samsung 20,000mAh Battery Availability

Since the news is not official confirmed we cannot really say when will this device be launched. And without official confirmation or more credible sources backing these claims, it's hard to know if Samsung is genuinely testing this for phones or if this is a case of misinterpreted information.
