And despite being the cheapest Samsung buds, I love that this guy doesn’t skip on useful features like active noise cancellation (ANC) either. Which works surprisingly well against most low-frequency ambient noises.
The Buds Core sounds great, though. Especially if your playlist revolves around hip-hop, EDM, rock, and similar genres of songs. You can also mess around with different pre-built equalizers to customize its sound, although the option to create a custom EQ is not present here. I’d like to single out its sound quality more than anything else since the Nirvana Ion ANC Pro can sound really, really good. Although I’m still a little salty that its charging case no longer doubles as a phone stand.
Anyway, the most noticeable upgrade on the R60i NC is definitely in the ANC since Soundcore says these earbuds can cancel out up to 52dB of ambient noise. Compared to 42dB on the R50i NC. And in our tests, we found its ANC to be noticeably stronger as well—especially against low-frequency noises and even human voices.
The audio quality also sees a nice improvement, bass-wise, since Soundcore has used a larger 11mm driver this time. We don’t know about Soundcore’s “2x more powerful bass” claim, but yeah. If you’re a basshead, you’re definitely gonna like how it sounds. It supports hi-res LDAC codec too, while the battery life sees a slight improvement with 50 hours of total playtime vs 45 hours on its predecessor.

Whereas they sound just as impressive as they look. It doesn’t really have a “bass-heavy” sound profile as JBL suggests, and I’d say that’s a good thing because the Wave Buds 2 have a lovely, balanced sound instead. That respects the lows, the mids, and the highs equally. Besides all this, these earbuds do an adequately convincing job at getting rid of the environmental noise and have a commendable 40 hours of total battery life.
