Moving on from budget-to-midrange gaming monitors, Hisense has officially introduced its premium gaming monitor, the GX Ultra, positioning it as a competitor to Apple’s Studio Display but with specialized gaming features. It bridges the gap between professional high-resolution content creation screens and high-speed gaming monitors, making it ideal for both content creation and gaming. 

The monitor features a versatile dual-mode system, depending on users’ needs, an advanced Mini-LED panel, up to 330Hz refresh, and more. So, in this article, I will cover everything you need to know about the GX Ultra, including its specs, features, availability, and expected price in Nepal.

The GX Ultra comes with a 27-inch 5K Obsidian Mini LED panel that supports dual-mode performance, making it a one-of-a-kind monitor. But before talking more about the screen, let’s learn what the heavily marketed term “Obsidian Screen” is.

What is Obsidian Screen?

Obsidian screen refers to an advanced display technology that maintains deep blacks and high contrast while minimizing reflections in bright environments. It uses a zero optical distance (0OD), which means that the Mini-LED backlight is placed extremely close to the LCD layer to prevent light bleed. 

Unlike many matte gaming monitors, the Obsidian screen has a glossy panel finish that is paired with an ultra-low reflective coating. It is said to reduce reflectivity to 1.8% in a brightly lit room, while offering improved visuals with deeper blacks and sharp highlights.

During creative tasks, you can work on a stunning 5K (5120 x 2880 pixel) resolution at a smooth 180Hz refresh rate, whereas you can switch to QHD (2560 x 1440 pixel) resolution at a fast 330Hz refresh rate for fast-paced gaming, as fast frame rates are more important than visuals. 

Additionally, for gamers, the screen boasts 1ms gray-to-gray response time and AMD FreeSync Pro support that prevents ghosting and screen tearing. It includes BFI to reduce motion blur and offer a smoother gaming experience. The display offers a wide 178-degree viewing angle to ensure stable image quality and color accuracy from almost any position.

The UX Ultra gaming monitor has been launched in China at a starting price of CNY 6,999. While there is no information about its global release yet, if it does enter the Nepali market, one can expect the UX Ultra price to be somewhere around NPR 155,399.
