Nubia V80 Design Review: When budget meets style and functionality

I spent some time using the Nubia V80 Design, and my first impression was honestly about how premium it looks for the price. Smartphone prices have been steadily increasing, and finding a good device in the Rs. 20,000–25,000 range is becoming more challenging than before. ZTE’s Nubia V80 Design tries to fill that gap by focusing heavily on design, clean software, and a smooth everyday experience.

Elegant Design

The Nubia V80 Design immediately stands out because of its premium-inspired look. At first glance, it closely resembles the iPhone 17 Pro Max, especially in terms of its camera lens placement and raised camera module. Despite that flagship-style appearance, the build quality and in-hand feel are solid for its price segment. The phone is also IP64-rated, so it can withstand minor dust and water splashes without worry.

On the front, it features an IPS LCD HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. While I would have preferred a Full HD panel at this price, the display is still decent for everyday use. Viewing angles are fine, brightness is also decent, and scrolling through apps like Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram feels smooth thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate. YouTube playback supports up to 1080p, though overall sharpness remains average.

Performance

Likewise, moving on to the performance side, this guy is powered by the Unisoc T7280 processor. It’s not a high-performance chipset, but during my usage, everyday tasks like browsing, messaging, and light multitasking worked without major lag. PUBG is playable at the minimum graphics settings, but this phone is clearly better suited for casual use than forheavy gaming.

Meanwhile, the side-mounted fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate, and I had no issues with unlocking speed. It also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is becoming rare these days and will definitely be appreciated by some users.

Software

One of the more impressive aspects of the Nubia V80 Design is its software experience. It runs Android 16 out of the box with MyOS, and the interface feels clean and close to stock Android. In daily use, the UI felt smooth and uncluttered. It includes practical AI features like Circle to Search and built-in Google Gemini. There’s even an AI Memories feature similar to what we usually see on more expensive OnePlus phones. The dedicated customizable side button for triggering AI features is a thoughtful and unique addition in this segment.

Camera

In the camera department, although the rear design suggests three lenses, only one is actually functional. The phone features a 50MP rear camera and a 16MP front camera. In good lighting, photos come out fairly detailed and vibrant. Portraits and selfies are decent for social media. Video recording is limited to 1080p and lacks proper stabilization, so footage can look shaky while walking or moving.

Lastly, the 5,000mAh battery comfortably lasted me a full day with regular use, including social media, YouTube, and some camera testing. It supports 22.5W wired charging, which is reasonable for this segment.

Overall, I found the Nubia V80 Design to be a surprisingly well-rounded budget smartphone that prioritizes style and usability. Its premium-inspired design, smooth software experience, and thoughtful features, such as AI tools and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, make it a strong contender in its price range. While it compromises slightly on display sharpness, video stabilization, and gaming performance, it excels as a daily driver for social media, multimedia, and casual photography. For anyone looking for a stylish, reliable phone without spending a fortune, the Nubia V80 Design is definitely worth considering.
