Samsung has gone back to Exynos for its newest midrange phone. But that price tag is... almost scary!

Samsung has launched the Galaxy A37 5G in Nepal today, alongside the Galaxy A57. And if you were thinking about upgrading from your Galaxy A36, you might be disappointed. The phone comes with the same chassis, the same battery, and largely the same camera system. The only meaningful change is its new Exynos chipset, and alongside that, its price has shot up by quite a bit as well. So let's get into all the details about the new Galaxy A37 5G!
Samsung Galaxy A37 5G Overview
Design and Display
The A37 is, dimensionally, the same phone as the A36. It has the same thickness, and Samsung changed nothing about its heft as well. The phone also looks similar, and you'd be hard-pressed to tell them apart by feel. Galaxy A37 5G comes with a glass front and back with a plastic frame and IP68 water resistance. The A36 already felt surprisingly premium in hand despite the plastic frame, so that carry-over is fine here too, if you ask me. It comes in Black, Gray-green, Lavender, and White finishes, although the White variant isn't available in Nepal just yet.

The phone features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. We still don't get LTPO tech in Samsung's midrange phones, which is a little disappointing. That said, the Galaxy A37's display is plenty bright with a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, so outdoor visibility shouldn't be a concern here. And to make HDR content pop, this thing can hit 1,900 nits of brightness. Actually, the Galaxy A37 has an identical display to the more expensive Galaxy A57. And I know it's got pretty thick bezels, but 86.5% screen-to-body ratio isn't too bad.
Furthermore, its screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+ against accidental scratches and fall damage. One thing worth noting is that the A37 does not support HDR10+, which the A57 does. That said, the A37’s display is still one of its strongest points, delivering rich AMOLED colors and deep blacks, something that has long been a hallmark of Samsung’s mid-range phones.
Performance
As I mentioned above, the processor is where you'll see the most noticeable change in the Galaxy A37. Its predecessor ran on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, which handled daily tasks fine but felt quite uninspiring. The phone never really felt fast, and in most cases, it was only just good enough for everyday use.
The A37 now switches to Samsung's own Exynos 1480 chip. At first, that might sound counterintuitive, going from Snapdragon to Exynos, but in this case, it actually works. In our brief usage so far, we found that the Exynos 1480 delivers smoother UI navigation and holds up better over longer use, with fewer micro-stutters than the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. Indeed, it’s an unusual move, but for the A37’s use case, the Exynos 1480 is simply the better chip.
Similarly, you can configure the Galaxy A37 with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. On the software side, it runs on One UI 8.5 (Android 16) out of the box, with Samsung's six-year OS update commitment intact as always.
Camera

Moving to the cameras, the Galaxy A37 5G comes with the exact same setup as the Galaxy A36. So you're looking at a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP main, an 8MP ultrawide, and a pointless 5MP macro shooter. While it has the same 12MP selfie camera as before. We know how reliable Samsung's main camera on its midrange phones is, but given that the competition, like the newly launched Nothing Phone (4a), brings a proper periscope telephoto camera in this price segment, we can't help but be disappointed with what the Galaxy A37 offers in terms of the camera.
Battery
Like the cameras, there's nothing new in the battery department either. With the same 5,000mAh battery and 45W wired charging support that can fill up the phone to 60% in half an hour. You can still expect around 7 hours of screen-on time on this phone, although I should mention that you don't get a charger inside the box here.
