Vivo has just launched its latest midrange phone in Nepal, and its specs look anything but promising. At least considering the price. Because, while the new Vivo Y500 does have a large 8,100 mAh battery and a bright AMOLED display, its overall specs look pretty underwhelming. Anyway, let me take you through everything you need to know about the Vivo Y500, including its official price in Nepal and availability.
Key Highlights
- Vivo Y500 is a midrange phone with a big focus on battery life and durability.
- It brings a large 8,100 mAh battery, while the phone is also IP68 + IP69 dust and water resistant.
- The Y500's AMOLED display is just as impressive, especially with its 2,000 nits of full-screen brightness.
- But performance and cameras are the weakest points of this phone.
- Vivo Y500 has a dual rear camera setup with a 50MP primary and a 2MP depth sensor.
- While powering the phone is a pretty mediocre Unisoc T7300 chip.
Vivo Y500 Overview
Design and display
Available in either “Midnight Blue” or “Pearl White” finishes, the Vivo Y500 is very much a durability-focused phone. It is IP68 and IP69 dust and water-resistant, and Vivo says this phone has also passed a military-grade shock resistance test against everyday bumps and drops as well.
The Y500 also brings a metallic-finish frame for a more premium hands-on feel, but that choice of words is pretty interesting since we don't see any antenna lines on its frames. Which means the Vivo Y500 has a typical plastic frame, which has been chemically treated for a sorta metallic feel to it.
Up front, you're looking at a massive 6.83-inch AMOLED display. And I gotta say, this is definitely one of the other highlights of this phone as well. It has a smooth 120Hz refresh rate as expected, and other than that, the Vivo Y500's screen also brings a sharp 1.5K resolution, minimal bezels with an impressive 94.47% screen-to-body ratio, and 2,000 nits of full-screen brightness thanks to BOE's “Q10+” AMOLED panel.

The same Q10+ panel we've seen on much more expensive phones like the iQOO 15T. It's been SGS certified for low flicker and low blue light emission as well, so like I said before, the display is easily one of the headlining features of the Vivo Y500.
Performance
But performance is where I'm disappointed the most here, since Vivo went with Unisoc's T7300 (6nm) chip this time. To be fair, it's a pretty decent 4G processor… but it's just not something I would like to see on a phone that costs over 50,000 rupees. And something like the Redmi Note 15 Pro (review) or the Infinix GT 30 Pro (review) will fare much better if performance is a priority to you. This has been paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128/256GB of slow UFS 2.2 storage, with no option for a microSD card slot either.

The Y500 does have a fairly large 3,000mm² vapor chamber cooling system, although that feels like quite an overkill for a Unisoc T7300-powered phone. Since this chip has just two high-performance Cortex-A78 CPU cores that can clock as fast as 2.2 GHz. In terms of performance, Vivo Y500 boots on Android 16-based OriginOS 6 with no word on any update commitment.
Cameras and battery
The camera side of things is nothing extraordinary on the Vivo Y500 either. You're looking at a dual rear camera setup, which consists of a 50MP IMX852 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a pointless 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. The front of the phone houses a 32MP f/2.0 wide-angle selfie unit, and while Vivo does highlight some interesting camera features like “Live Photo”—and even underwater photography—don't expect much in the camera department here.

At least its battery life should be pretty awesome since the Vivo Y500 gets its juice from a massive 8,100 mAh battery. Despite this, the phone is surprisingly slim and lightweight at just 8.4mm and 215 grams. With this setup, Vivo claims you can play PUBG on the Y500 for 10.2 hours straight, while it's good for nearly 30 hours of video playback. It supports 44W wired charging, alongside bypass charging to prevent overheating, and also reverse wired charging.
Besides all this, the Vivo Y500 has stereo speakers, an optical in-display fingerprint sensor for biometric login, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless connectivity.
