Redmi 17 goes official with a huge battery and 120Hz display!

Redmi has officially unveiled the Redmi 17 as its latest budget smartphone aimed at users who prioritize battery life over raw performance, alongside the Redmi 17 5G. The phone has similar features to its sibling, but the main difference is its processor, which I will talk about in a minute. But for now, in this article, I will discuss this phone in detail, including the expected Redmi 17 price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.

Redmi 17 Overview

Battery and Camera

Starting off, the biggest highlight of the Redmi 17 is undoubtedly its 7,500mAh battery, making it one of the largest batteries available on a mainstream budget smartphone. With such a large cell, the phone should comfortably last two days of regular use. It also supports 45W turbo charging, which should help top up the battery reasonably quickly despite its huge capacity. Interestingly, Redmi has also included 22.5W wired reverse charging, allowing the phone to charge accessories or even another smartphone when needed. 

For photography, the Redmi 17 houses a 50MP primary camera paired with an auxiliary sensor. Instead of filling the rear camera module with multiple low-resolution lenses, Xiaomi has kept things simple by focusing on the primary shooter. The camera supports HDR, Night Mode, Portrait Mode, Time-lapse, Document Mode, FilmCamera, and Dual Camera Recording. Meanwhile, an 8MP front-facing camera handles selfies and video calls.

Performance and Software

Unlike its 5G sibling, the Redmi 17 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra processor and is built on a 12nm process. The chipset isn't designed for demanding gaming or intensive workloads, so it should handle everyday activities like web browsing, social media, video streaming, and casual gaming without much trouble.

Memory-wise, it arrives with up to 6GB RAM and up to 256GB UFS 2.2 internal storage, which could be expanded up to 2TB using a microSD card whenever you run out of space. On the software front, the Redmi 17 ships with Xiaomi HyperOS 3, bringing Xiaomi's latest interface with smoother animations and improved system optimization.

Design and Display

Design-wise, the Redmi 17 follows Xiaomi's recent design language with a flat frame, rounded corners, and a rectangular rear camera island. It is available in “Black”, “Deep Blue”, “Lotus Purple”, and “Oak Green” finishes, giving you more variety than its 5G counterpart. It measures 8.8mm in thickness and weighs 232 grams, making it understandably on the heavier side due to its oversized battery. For durability, it comes with an IP64 rating, offering protection against dust and accidental water splashes during everyday use.

On the front, the Redmi 17 sports a 6.9-inch LCD panel with an HD+ (1600 × 720) resolution. While an HD+ panel on such a large screen isn't the sharpest you'll find in this segment, text and icons won't appear as crisp as they do on Full HD displays. However, for everyday tasks like browsing social media, watching YouTube, or chatting, the experience remains decent.

To make up for the modest resolution, Xiaomi has equipped the display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. This makes scrolling through apps, navigating the interface, and switching between menus feel noticeably smoother than on standard 60Hz panels. The display also reaches 825 nits in High Brightness Mode for improved outdoor visibility and includes DC dimming alongside TUV Rheinland certifications for Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, and Circadian Friendly viewing to help reduce eye strain during extended use.
