JBL XTREME 5 launched in Nepal with massive bass and Auracast support

JBL has just launched its premium portable Bluetooth speaker in the Nepali market. This new Xtreme 5 is actually the direct successor to the Xtreme 4 that we saw in 2024. This new portable speaker comes with massive upgrades in areas like hardware, audio optimization, and more, focusing on those users looking for a suitable device to carry with them for outdoor adventures or for their living room setup. JBL Xtreme 5 Overview

Familiar design

Starting with the design, this new Xtreme 5 looks no different than the Xtreme 4. It comes with a sleek design and offers color choices of “Blue”, “Black”, and “Camo”. Similarly, it is built with post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic and fabric, along with recycled driver magnets, following JBL's sustainability efforts. 

And now you can carry this Xtreme 5 with you on your travels and adventures without worrying about mishaps, thanks to its IP68 rating against water, dust, and drops. You also get a built-in floating hook on this speaker, so you can attach the adjustable shoulder strap for easier portability.

Audio Quality

Under the hood, the JBL Xtreme 5 comes with one large, powerful 98 mm x 145 mm woofer that is designed to pump out deep bass, alongside two small 20mm tweeters to keep vocals and high notes crisp and clear. And this acoustic is tuned by a Harman Acoustics team. As far as power output is concerned, JBL claims a total of 130W, with 90W from the woofer and 40W from the tweeters, for maximum party volume. You can get this output when you plug it directly into the wall. 

However, when you run it on battery, the power output drops slightly to 90W, with the woofer contributing 60W and the tweeters providing the remaining 30W. Though it drops slightly, the loudness that you get in this speaker is pretty decent. Further, it covers the frequency range of 40 Hz-20 kHz, and the signal-to-noise ratio is rated atabove 80dB.

Connectivity

For connectivity, JBL Xtreme 5 uses Bluetooth 6.0 alongside AAC and SBC codec support as usual. But it also has the LC3 codec, which helps maintain decent audio quality even at lower bandwidth. Apart from this, it also supports the Auracast that lets you broadcast audio to multiple compatible devices at the same time.

Other than this, you can use the JBL Portable app to pair the two Auracast-enabled speakers, or link the whole JBL crew together for wall sound that powers a party without a complicated setup. And if you want to customize your experience, you can use the app to fine-tune your sound with a 7-band EQ and select distinct light themes on the fly.

For wired use, Xtreme 5 supports USB-C audio directly from your phone, as well as lossless USB-C audio for high-quality streaming that captures every detail.

Battery and Others

Inside the Xtreme 5, you get a 68Wh battery that JBL claims to last for up to 24 hours of music playback under normal conditions. This speaker also has the Playtime Boost mode, which delivers optimized performance to save power and extends battery life to around 28 hours, which in the Xtreme 4 was about 24 hours. 

For charging, you can use a 20V/3A USB-C charger, which takes around 3.5 hours to fully charge the speaker. While a 10-minute quick charge in this portable speaker also gives up to 2 hours of playtime. Interestingly, it also has a built-in power bank that lets you charge an external device directly from the speaker. At last, the battery life looks solid, but the volume level and ambient edge lighting can slightly reduce it, so keep that in mind when using it.
