Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface Laptop Overview

      Design and Display

      Surface Pro 13-inch

Starting with the premium Surface Pro 13-inch, it keeps the familiar 2-in-1 form factor that lets us switch between tablet and laptop mode on the go. The device also supports the optional Surface Pro Flex Keyboard for convenience. The device is available in Platinum, Black, and Dune color options.

For its display, we get an excellent 13-inch PixelSense touchscreen with a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels, a fast 120Hz refresh rate, and, for the first time, Microsoft is even offering an optional OLED panel alongside the standard LCD, bringing deeper blacks and noticeably better contrast and color accuracy.

      Surface Laptop Design

Now, moving to the regular Surface Laptop, it sticks to a regular clamshell design for both 13.8-inch and 15-inch models. The 13.8-inch model introduces a new Jade color option alongside Platinum, Black, and Dune, while the 15-inch model ships only in Platinum and Black color options.

For displays, both use an HDR PixelSense LCD touchscreen running at a fast 120Hz, with the 13.8-inch at 2304 x 1536 pixels and the 15-inch at 3270 x 2180 pixels, respectively.

      Performance

Now the most interesting part, i.e., the performance

Both the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop now run on Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X2 platform, available in either the 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus or the more powerful 12-core Snapdragon X2 Elite configuration. Microsoft says this delivers up to 53% faster graphics performance on the Surface Pro and up to 58% faster on the Surface Laptop, compared to their previous generations.

      Snapdragon X2 Plus Chip

Adding more on performance, Microsoft is also building these devices around a hybrid AI model, where lighter, low-latency tasks are processed on-device via the NPU, while heavier AI workloads are offloaded to the cloud.

      Battery and Ports

In terms of battery life, the Surface Pro 13-inch is rated for up to 15.5 hours, whereas the Surface Laptop claims up to 20 hours on the 13.8-inch model and up to 19 hours on the larger 15-inch variant.

For connectivity, the Surface Pro keeps things pretty minimal with two USB-C/USB4 ports and a Surface Connect port, whereas the Surface Laptop offers a more complete selection of ports, including two USB-C/USB4 ports, a USB-A 3.2 port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Surface Connect, with the 15-inch model additionally adding a microSD card slot.

Both devices also include facial recognition via Windows Hello for security.

      Extras..

Talking about extras, Microsoft has introduced a whole new haptic feedback on its touchpad and the Surface Slim Pen, which works on Windows 11 and on specific supported apps. Actions like window snapping, scrubbing through video, and creative editing in apps like Affinity now come with tactile feedback for more precise control.
