Poco F9 Ultra debuts with a 5x telephoto camera and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Poco has officially launched the F9 Ultra as the successor to last year’s F8 Ultra, expanding its flagship smartphone lineup. The new phone looks heavily like a rebranded version of the Chinese model, the Redmi K100 Pro Max. It features a 6.9-inch AMOLED display with a 185Hz refresh rate, a 200MP main camera, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, and a massive 8,050mAh battery. In this article, I will discuss everything you need to know about the Poco F9 Ultra, including its specifications, availability, and expected price in Nepal. 

Poco F9 Ultra Overview

Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Poco F9 Ultra looks similar to its predecessor, featuring a rectangular camera island on the back. However, the major difference this time is the finish, with the phone getting a more refined look and a dynamic light design around the Bose DECO. This gives the rear a more distinctive appearance while still retaining the familiar brand identity.

For durability, the phone comes with an IP68 rating, offering strong protection against dust and water. This should give you added peace of mind during everyday use, especially against accidental splashes and water exposure. You can also choose from “Black” and “Dark Cherry” finishes. 

Up front, the F9 Ultra features a large 6.9-inch HyperRGB AMOLED display using the new M11 panel. It supports a 185Hz refresh rate, which should make scrolling and animations feel smoother, while gamers can benefit from the added responsiveness in supported titles. Additionally, the screen can reach up to 10,000 nits peak brightness, making it easier to view content outdoors under bright sunlight.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Poco F9 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This should give the phone plenty of headroom for demanding games, heavy multitasking, and other intensive workloads. Alongside it, Poco has also added the VisionBoost D8 chipset, which enables smart frame interpolation and AI super resolution for gaming at up to 185 FPS.

Memory-wise, the phone is configured with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage, giving users plenty of space for apps, games, photos, videos, and other large files.

On the software side, the Poco F9 Ultra runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, bringing Xiaomi’s latest interface and features to the phone.

For optics, the Poco F9 Ultra features a 200MP main camera, paired with a 50MP 5x periscope telephoto and a 50MP ultrawide lens. The periscope camera should help capture distant subjects with better detail, while the main camera also gets OIS and a dedicated 200MP mode for capturing photos at the sensor's full resolution. For selfies and video calls, you get a 32MP front camera.

For audio, the Poco F9 Ultra features a 2.1-channel speaker system with Sound by Bose co-tuning and a dedicated woofer. This should provide fuller and more immersive audio when watching movies, listening to music, or gaming. It also supports Dolby Atmos for a wider soundstage.

The Poco F9 Ultra is officially launched globally with a starting price of USD 799 for the 12/256GB variant, while the 16/512GB model costs USD 949. Finally, the top-end 16GB/1TB configuration is priced at USD 1,199. For now, there is no information regarding its announcement in the local market; however, if it does get launched here, you can expect the Poco F9 Ultra price in Nepal to be around NPR 1,21,399 for the base model.
