Sony Xperia 10 VIII goes official with a translucent design and 120Hz OLED display!

Sony has officially introduced the Xperia 10 VIII as the successor to last year's Xperia 10 VII, expanding its mid-range lineup. The new smartphone brings a few meaningful refinements, including a brighter display, improved front-firing stereo speakers, and a new translucent design. In this article, I will discuss everything you need to know about the Sony Xperia 10 VIII, from its specifications and features to availability and expected price in Nepal. 

Sony Xperia 10 VIII Overview

Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Sony Xperia 10 VIII keeps the compact form factor of its predecessor, but gets a new translucent rear panel with a matte, clear-coated finish. This gives the phone a more distinctive look while keeping the overall design clean and understated. It measures 8mm thick and weighs around 168g. The phone is available in Frozen White, Frosted Grey, and Misty Lilac color options.

The device carries an IP65/68 rating for dust and water resistance, while the front comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for added durability. It also features some increasingly rare hardware staples, including a 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot.

On the front, the Sony Xperia 10 VIII features a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering a snappy scrolling experience. While the panel itself remains largely unchanged from the Xperia 10 VII, Sony claims the new model is around 50% brighter outdoors, which should make it easier to view in direct sunlight. The screen has the familiar 19.5:9 aspect ratio, making the phone relatively easy to handle one-handed.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Sony Xperia 10 VIII is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The chipset is carried over from the Xperia 10 VII, so there isn't a major performance upgrade this time around. For storage expansion, the phone supports a microSD card of up to 2TB.

On the software front, the Sony Xperia 10 VIII runs Android 16 out of the box. Sony has also introduced support for up to 6GB of virtual RAM, which can help keep more apps running in the background. Beyond that, the phone sticks to Sony's relatively clean Android experience, with a few handy additions and customization options. Here you can expect up to four years of major upgrades and up to six years of security updates.

Audio

Another notable part of the Sony Xperia 10 VIII is its front-firing stereo speakers. Like its predecessor, the phone retains the setup, but Sony claims the speakers are now around 15% louder and deliver over 30% stronger bass. This should make the phone more enjoyable for watching videos, playing games, or listening to music without headphones.

Moving to the cameras, the Sony Xperia 10 VIII features a dual-camera setup at the back, comprising a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and a 13MP ultra-wide lens. 

The main camera should be capable of producing good-looking shots in daylight, while the OIS should help with steadier handheld photos and videos, particularly in lower-light situations. 

Meanwhile, the ultra-wide lens gives you more flexibility for landscapes and group shots, although it is unlikely to match the main sensor in terms of detail and low-light performance. For selfies and video calls, the phone gets an 8MP front-facing camera.

In terms of battery, the Sony Xperia 10 VIII packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 30W wired charging. Sony claims up to two days of battery life on a single charge and says its battery-care features can help maintain battery health for up to four years.

While Sony has not confirmed its availability in the local market yet, if it does launch here, the Sony Xperia 10 VIII price in Nepal could be around NPR 1,06,999.
